When a live broadcast produces several separate recording clips instead of one continuous recording, it usually means the connection between your streaming equipment and our servers was interrupted.
Each time the stream disconnects and reconnects, our system sees it as a new broadcast session. Even though you did not intentionally stop and restart the stream, the interruption can cause a new recording clip to be created.
In most cases, this points to an issue somewhere within the broadcaster’s local setup rather than a problem with the recording itself.
Common causes
Possible causes include:
- An unstable internet connection
- Broadcasting over Wi-Fi instead of a wired connection
- A router or modem briefly losing connectivity
- Loose or damaged Ethernet cables
- A problem with the streaming computer’s network adapter
- An encoder or computer becoming overloaded
- Streaming settings that are too demanding for the available upload speed
- Firewall, antivirus or network-security software interrupting the connection
- A recent operating-system, security or network update
- Temporary problems with a local internet provider
Recommended streaming settings
As a reliable starting point, we recommend:
- Video resolution: 1280 × 720
- Frame rate: 30 frames per second
- Video bitrate: approximately 2,200 Kbps
- Audio bitrate: 128 Kbps
- Audio sample rate: 48 kHz
- Keyframe interval: every 2 seconds
These settings provide a good balance between video quality and connection stability.
Using a higher resolution or bitrate may place unnecessary pressure on the encoder and internet connection, especially when upload capacity is limited.
Troubleshooting steps
Please try the following before your next broadcast:
- Restart the streaming computer or encoder.
- Restart the modem and router.
- Use a wired Ethernet connection whenever possible.
- Check that all Ethernet, USB and video cables are firmly connected.
- Replace any questionable network cables.
- Close unnecessary applications running on the streaming computer.
- Confirm that the encoder is using the recommended settings above.
- Check whether antivirus, firewall or security software recently updated.
- Run an internet speed test, paying particular attention to upload speed and connection consistency.
- Confirm that no other devices are heavily using the network during the broadcast.
A wired connection is strongly preferred. Wi-Fi may appear fast during a speed test but can still experience brief interruptions that cause the stream to disconnect.
If the problem continues
Please send us the following information so we can help diagnose the issue:
- The streaming software or encoder being used
- The computer or hardware model
- Whether the connection is wired or Wi-Fi
- Video resolution and frame rate
- Video and audio bitrate
- Internet upload speed
- Approximate date and time of the affected broadcast
- How many separate clips were created
- Whether the encoder displayed any warnings or disconnect messages
- Any recent changes to the computer, router, firewall or security software
The key issue is that the connection to our servers is being interrupted. Identifying whether that interruption begins with the internet connection, network equipment, streaming device or encoder settings will help us determine the best next step.
