Facebook Live Not Working? Reset Your Facebook Connection

Resetting Your Facebook Simulcast Connection

If your live stream is not reaching Facebook, the best place to start is by creating a completely fresh connection - or “handshake” - between Sermon Studio and Facebook.

Facebook controls its own permissions and may occasionally update or reset them without notice. Reconnecting your account will often resolve the issue.

Before You Begin

Make sure your church or ministry is streaming to a Facebook Page.

  • Do not create or use a personal Facebook profile as the church’s public destination.
  • Do not use a Facebook Group as the streaming destination.
  • Facebook expects churches, ministries, and organizations to use a Facebook Page when streaming through an integration such as Sermon Studio.

You will also need a personal Facebook profile that has administrative access to the church’s Facebook Page.

You will use that personal profile to authorize the connection. After signing in, you can select the church or ministry Page as the destination inside Sermon Studio.

Follow These Steps Exactly

  1. Go directly to Facebook.com and completely log out of Facebook. This is an important first step.
  2. Sign in to your Sermon Studio account.
  3. Go to the Simulcast page (within your Sermon Studio account)
  4. Delete the current Facebook connection.
  5. Refresh the Simulcast page and confirm that the Facebook connection is completely gone.
  6. Select Add Facebook.
  7. Sign in using a personal Facebook profile that has administrative rights to the church or ministry Facebook Page.
  8. Complete the Facebook authorization process.
  9. From the destination dropdown inside Sermon Studio, select the correct church or ministry Facebook Page.

This creates a fresh connection with Facebook and will often get your simulcast working again.

Confirm the Correct Facebook Setup

Your setup should include:

  • A church or ministry Facebook Page as the streaming destination.
  • A personal Facebook profile with administrative access to that Page.
  • The ministry Page selected from the destination dropdown after login.

Facebook does not currently allow our integration to publish live streams directly into Facebook Groups. Use a ministry Facebook Page as your simulcast destination instead.

If the Problem Keeps Returning

There may be something unique happening with your Facebook account or its permissions.

Start by repeating the full connection reset. As a preventative measure, you may want to do this:

  • Weekly.
  • Every two weeks.
  • Monthly.
  • Before an especially important broadcast.

You can also try connecting with a different personal Facebook profile that has administrative access to the church’s Facebook Page. In some cases, an issue with the current personal profile or its permissions may be contributing to the disconnect.

The reset only takes a minute and ensures that Sermon Studio has a fresh connection with Facebook.
